Sofia Trikoupi

Sofia Trikoupi

Born in 1838, Sofia [Sophia] Trikoupi was the daughter of the Greek statesman and diplomat Spyridon Trikoupis, who briefly served as his country’s prime minister in 1833 and later occupied several important administrative and diplomatic posts, including three periods when he served as the Greek ambassador to the Court of St James in London (1835–1838, 1841–1843 and 1850–1861). Sofia’s mother was Aikaterini [Catherine] Trikoupi née Mavrokordatou, sister of Alexandros Mavrokordatos, who also served as Greek prime minister.

The family appear on the 1851 census living at 11 Park Square West, one of the elegant Nash houses on the south side of Regent’s Park. Sofia also appears on the 1861 census living at 44 Bryanston Square in Marylebone, with her parents and her older brother, Charilaos Trikoupis, who later served as Prime Minister of Greece seven times between 1875 and 1895. Also present on the night of the census were five English servants, including a cook, a valet and a footman.

Sofia Trikoupi died in 1916.
