Anti-Teapot League

Anti-Teapot League

One woman is handing the other a copy of 'The Anti-Teapot Review', a satirical journal published between 1864 and 1869. The title isn't actually visible in this photograph but is clearly legible on the two copies of the newspaper in the companion portrait, which is also listed here.

Touted as a 'Magazine of Politics, Literature and Art', the periodical aimed itself at the moralism implicit in the praise of tea by social critics such as Ritchie and Sigmond.

Photographed by the Fergus Brothers of Greenock, Largs and Millport.
