Mrs Moreton Buller

Mrs Moreton Buller

Born Mary Davenport, she was baptised on 8 February 1834 at Burslem in Staffordshire. Her father was William Davenport of the Davenport Pottery and of Maer Hall, Staffordshire.

On 12 February 1863 she married Moreton Edward Buller (actually Buller-Yarde-Buller but from 1866 Manningham-Buller). Their marriage produced four daughters.

Her husband succeeded to his father's baronetcy in 1882.

Lady Manningham-Buller died on 12 October 1923. She left an estate valued at £22,518.

'The death has just taken place at Dilhorne Hall, Staffordshire, of Lady Manningham-Buller, widow of Sir Morton Edward Manningham-Buller, in her ninetieth year. Sir Moreton was the second baronet and on his death in 1910, the title passed to his nephew, Sir Mervyn Manningham-Buller, of Broome Hill, Spratton. The first baronet, Sir Edward Buller, was a brother of the first Baron Churston. It was Sir Edward who, in 1866, by royal licence, assumed the additional surname of Manningham' (Northampton Chronicle and Echo, 15 October 1923).
