Mrs Mary Ward Bateman-Hanbury and daughters


Born on 18 January 1837, Mary Ward Davenport was the daughter of John Davenport of Foxley in Herefordshire and his wife Charlotte née Coltman.

On 2 February 1858 she married the Reverend and Honourable Arthur Allen Bateman-Hanbury, son of William Bateman-Hanbury, 1st Baron Bateman of Shobdon. Her husband had been appointed the Rector of Shobdon in 1853, a living he held until his death in 1919.

The Honourable Mrs Mary Bateman-Hanbury died, aged 58, at Shobdon Rectory on 31 December 1895.

She is seen here with her first two children, Edith and Constance.

Edith was born on 23 May 1860. She never married. She died, aged 84, on 7 September 1944 at Holme Lacy Hospital in Herefordshire. Her residence at the time of her death was Ty Clyd, Park Terrace, Llandrindod Wells, Radnorshire.

Constance was born on 4 March 1863. On 15 October 1896 she married Reverend Frank Sheffield, son of Sir Robert Sheffield, 4th Bt. She died on 28 January 1943 at the age of 79.
