Hon. Charles George Henry Cadogan


Born on 14 June 1850 in London’s Lowndes Square, the Honourable Charles George Henry Cadogan (1850-1901) was the youngest son of Henry Charles Cadogan, who succeeded as the 4th Earl Cadogan in 1864. His mother was Mary Sarah née Wellesley.

He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Grenadier Guards.

On 20 June 1874 in Gothenburg he married Henriette Wilhelmina Montgomery, daughter of Henry Montgomery of Gothenburg in Sweden. Their marriage produced three children.

The family appear on the 1881 census living at Hingham in Norfolk. The household included four live-in servants, all female.

Captain the Honourable Charles George Henry Cadogan died, aged 51, on 30 September 1901.

‘The Hon. Charles George Henry Cadogan, youngest brother of Earl Cadogan, has died suddenly in Scotland. Mr Cadogan, who was formerly in the Grenadier Guards, was 51 years of age, and leaves three sons’ (Sheffield Evening Telegraph, 2 October 1901).
