Miss E. Davenport and Arthur

Miss E. Davenport and Arthur

A label on the album page identifies the sitters as ‘Miss E. Davenport’ and the horse as ‘Arthur.’ The groom holding the horse's bridle is unidentified.

Given the context of the album and the names of the other sitters, this must be one of the daughters of the pottery manufacturer William Davenport of Maer Hall near Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, either Diana Elizabeth (known as Elizabeth), who was aged 26 in 1861, or Emily, who was 15 when the census was taken that year.

Photographed by E. Harrison of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
