Mary Manningham-Buller


Born in 1834, Mary Davenport was the daughter of William Davenport of Maer Hall in Staffordshire.

On 12 February 1863 she married Morton Edward Buller, son of Edward Manningham-Buller (born Edward Buller-Yarde-Buller) who changed his name when he was created a baronet.

‘On the 12th inst., at Maer, by the Right Rev. the Lord Bishop of Lichfield, Morton Edward, eldest son of Edward Manningham Buller, Esq., of Dilhorne Hall, to Mary, eldest daughter of William Davenport, Esq., of Maer Hall, in the county of Stafford’ (Morning Post, 16 February 1863).

Their marriage produced at least four children.

The couple appear on the 1871 census living at Trentham in Staffordshire with their one-year-old daughter Evelyn and seven servants.

In 1881 the family was at Dilhorne Hall and in 1891 at 49 Eaton Place, London.

In 1882 Morton Edward Manningham-Buller succeeded his father, becoming 2nd Baron of Dilhorne Hall.

Lady Mary Manningham-Buller died at Dilhorne Hall on 12 October 1923, leaving an estate valued at £22,518.
