Arthur Latham and George Evans

Arthur Latham and George Evans

Born at Bombay 0n 6 March 1847, Arthur Latham was the son of merchant Arthur George Latham, later of Weaste Hall, Lancashire. Following his education at Harrow, he went up to Trinity in the Michaelmas term of 1865, graduating BA in 1869. He became a partner in Latham and Co., merchants of Manchester. He appears on the 1901 census, aged 54, a ‘shipping merchant’ living with his brother and their two sisters at 98 Eccles Old Road, Pendleton, Lancashire. All four siblings were unmarried.

He died there, aged 57, on 2 January 1905, leaving an estate valued at £11,854.

The other man is identified recto in the lower margin as ‘G. Evans.’ This is possibly George Fettiplace John Gwynne Evans, late Evans-Gwynne, who became an Anglican cleric. He died, aged 81, at Canterbury on 30 December 1923.
