'Young Nick Kendall'

'Young Nick Kendall'


Identified on the album page as 'Young Nick Kendall,' this is Nicholas Kendall, the elder son of Nicholas Kendall of St Austell, Cornwall. His mother was Dora de Haviland née Prialux, daughter of Joshua Prialux.

Born in 1864 at Dinan in Brittany, he appears on the 1881 census, aged 18, living with his parents and his younger brother Lennox at Pelyn House, Lanlivery, Cornwall.

He died unmarried on 20 November 1888 at Naples; he was 24 years old (Royal Cornwall Gazette, 29 November 1888).

'The death of Mr Nicholas Kendall, of Pelyn, near Lostwithiel, (grandson of the late Mr N. Kendall, M.P. for East Cornwall) is reported to have occurred at Naples. The deceased gentleman was the owner of considerable valuable property in Lanlivery and Tywardreath parishes. He had been in a delicate state of health for some time, and was about 25 years of age' (The Cornishman, 29 November 1888).
