Mrs Constance Calvert and her daughters

Born on 18 September 1842 and baptised on 19 October that same year, Constance Maria Georgiana Peters was the daughter of the banker and amateur photographer William Peters of Beckenham in Kent (later of Ashfold House, Slaugham, Sussex).

On 14 August 1862 at Slaugham Church she married Captain (later Colonel) Archibald Motteux Calvert of the Royal Horse Artillery. The marriage produced two sons and two daughters.

The family appear on the 1871 census living at Ockley Court, Ockley, Surrey. The household included ten servants.

Mrs Calvert is seen in this portrait with her two daughters, Ada Henrietta Calvert (1863-1936) and Maud Mariamne [sic] Calvert (1865-1945).

Ada Calvert never married. She died on 6 April 1936, leaving an estate valued at £33,934.

Maud Calvert married Henry Cubbitt on 21 August 1890, a grandson of the builder and London property developer Thomas Cubitt. From 1892 to 1906 her husband was the Conservative MP for Reigate. In 1917 he succeeded his father and became 2nd Baron Ashcombe. Queen Camilla, the second wife of King Charles III, is their great-granddaughter. Lady Ashcombe died on 7 March 1945.

Mrs Constance Calvert died, aged 72, on 10 July 1915 at Ockley Court, Surrey.
