Edith Alice Capel

Born on 25 January 1866, Edith Alice Capel was baptised at St Stephen’s in Paddington on 8 March 1866. She was the fourth and youngest daughter of Arthur Risdon Capel and Mary Anne Jemima née Carnegy. Her father, a tea broker, was for many years the Treasurer of the London Orphan Asylum at Watford; he later changed his name to Arthur Risdon Capel Carnegy Arbuthnott when his wife came into possession of the estates of Balnamoon and Findowrie through the death of her sister in 1892.

In 1899 she married stockbroker Malcolm William Galloway. Their marriage produced two children but only daughter Evelyn Carnegy Galloway was still alive in 1911.

In 1901 and the 1911 the family were living at Shelley Hall in Essex.

When the 1939 Register was compiled, Edith was a widow living at Cuckfield in Sussex.

Mrs Edith Alice Galloway died, aged 76, on 5 March 1942 at North Lodge, Ascot, Berkshire. She left an estate valued at £474.
