Kate Carson in 'Paul's Return'

A carte-de-visite portrait of the actress Miss C. Carson (Kate Carson), seen here in Paul's Return by Watts Phillips. This particular production was staged at the Royal Princess's Theatre in February and March 1864.

'In Paul's Return, Mr Vining ably interpreted the author's idea of the proud and memory-tortured merchant, Richard Goldsworthy, and played the character with an amount of force and power which elicited frequent complimentary demonstrations, not only throughout the piece, but at the close. Miss Rebecca Powell looked perfectly charming as Blanche Wilton; and Miss Kate Saville, with conspicuous intelligence, did ample justice to the good-hearted and graceful Beatrice. All the other artistes engaged were welcomed with well-deserved favour' (Morning Advertiser, 29 March 1864).
