Sophy Henrade in 'The Duke's Motto'

A carte-de-visite portrait of the British actress Sophy Henrade, seen here in a scene from the melodrama The Duke’s Motto, an adaptation by John Brougham of Paul Feval’s Le Bossu [The Hunchback] presented at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in 1863.

She was possibly a daughter of Thomas Young of Melbourne, Australia. Another actress, Mary Henrade, married the Greek merchant Stephen Demetrius Pitzipios in 1872 and died in 1876. According to her obituary in The Era (19 March 1876), she was 'the third daughter of Mr Thomas Young, of Melbourne, Australia. Her age was thirty-four.'
