Harald Kolling

Harald Kolling

A carte-de-visite portrait of the Danish actor Harald Kolling (1835-1904).

He is seen here as one of the characters in Heksefløjten [English: The Witch's Flute] by Erik Bøgh, a Danish adaption of Jacques Offenbach's Le fifre enchanté, an opéra-bouffe first performed in Paris in 1868.

A noted comic actor in his native Denmark, Kolling was extremely popular with middle-class audiences in Copenhagen. During his long career, he played over 450 different characters. His last performance was on 14 September 1901; he died three years later in 1904. He was his country's first thespian to receive the Knight's Cross.
