George Godfrey Bosville Macdonald


Born on 17 May 1861, George Godfrey Bosville Macdonald was the son of Colonel the Honourable James Macdonald, who lived at Ranger’s Lodge in centre of London’s Hyde Park.

In 1876 he was appointed a Page of Honour to Queen Victoria.

At the time of the 1881 census, he was a ‘gentleman cadet’ at the Royal Military College in Sandhurst. Later that same year he became a Lieutenant in the service of the Grenadier Guards. He fought in the Egyptian campaign of 1882 and was present at the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir. He retired with the rank of Captain in 1897.

Captain George Macdonald died, aged 69, on 18 July 1930 at the Duncroft Nursing Home in Staines. He left an estate valued at £1971.
