The Hon. Jane Bosville Macdonald


Born on 25 May 1815 at Welbeck Street in London, the Honourable Jane Bosville Macdonald was the daughter of Lieutenant-General Godfrey Bosville Macdonald, third Baron Macdonald of Slate. Her mother was Louisa Maria la Coast, the illegitimate daughter of William, 1st Duke of Gloucester, a younger brother of King George III.

She never married. She appears on the 1851 census living at Birdsall House in Yorkshire, the home of Henry Willoughby, who in 1856 succeeded as the 8th Baronet Middleton. Henry Willoughby’s wife Julia Louisa Willoughby was the niece the Honourable Jane Bosville Macdonald.

In 1871 she had her own establishment at 8 Eldon Road in Kensington, where she lived with two servants.

The Honourable Jane Bosville Macdonald died, aged 72, on 13 January 1888 at 10 Sewerby Terrace, Bridlington Quay, Yorkshire. She left an estate valued at £5001.
