'Now Ma-rm, Say When?'

'Now Ma-rm, Say When?'

Cartoons and illustrations mocking the crinoline proliferated in the 1850s and early 1860s, so it was inevitable that photography, a male-dominated industry, would also poke fun at the feminine fashion. This example is captioned 'Now Ma-rm, Say When?' in the lower margin.

Photographed by Michael Burr of Birmingham.

Entered at Stationers' Hall on 17 July 1865. The accompanying form reads: 'Photograph entitled "Now Marm, Say When?" Conductor about to lift old lady into omnibus. Gentleman in white hat standing by the door.'
