Miss Jane Hoare


A carte-de-visite portrait of Miss Jane Celestria Hoare (1842-1914), later Mrs Rodney Murray.

Born in 1842, she was the daughter of Gerald Noel Hoare and his wife Lilias Sophia née O'Brien. According to the 1861 census, her father was a 'Magistrate and Brewer.' On the 1871 census he described himself as 'Royal Navy (retired).'

On 1 June 1865, at All Saints's Church, Norfolk Square, Paddington, Miss Jane Celestria Hoare, youngest daughter of G. N. Hoare, Esq. of 27, Gloucester Square, Hyde Park, married Francis Rodney Murray, third surviving son of the Reverend David Rodney Murray, rector of Brampton Brian in Herefordshire [The Morning Post, 5 June 1865]. The marriage produced at least three children.

The couple appear on the 1901 census living at Walton House at Walton in Suffolk. In 1911 Mrs Murray was living on her own in a house in Dover. She died in 1914.
