Loch Maree Hotel

Loch Maree Hotel

A topographical carte-de-visite showing a view of the Loch Maree Hotel on the shore of Loch Maree in Wester Ross. Bordered by the road to Gairloch, the loch is considered the prettiest in the Highlands.

Constructed as a hotel in 1872, its location soon made it a popular destination for tourists travelling through Wester Ross. Even Queen Victoria stayed here (12-18 September 1877), writing in her journal: 'Got up early and breakfasted at half-past eight, and at a quarter to nine we left with regret our nice cozy little hotel at Loch Maree, which I hope I may some day see again.' The hotel is still in operation today.
