Holyrood Chapel in Edinburgh

A carte-de-visite showing a view of the ruins of Holyrood Abbey in Edinburgh.

The ruins of the abbey were a popular subject for photographers in the mid-nineteenth century. Indeed, even before it was ever photographed, Daguerre exhibited dioramas of the subject in Paris from 1823 until 1824, in London from March 1825 and in Liverpool from 1825 until 1827.

Photographer unidentified [reverse is blank].
