Mlle Leroux

Mlle Leroux

A carte-de-visite portrait of a scantily clad performer identified as Mlle Leroux.

She is possibly the 'Leroux' who is listed in The Pretty Women of Paris, a somewhat smutty and scurrilous guide to the courtesans and cocottes of Paris privately printed in 1883. By that date she had apparently become 'An elderly, but none the less fiery old actress, who opens her gates of pleasure at the slightest masculine contact. [...] She is universally adored, in spite of her age, for her incessant flow of gaiety, and her enemies, having nothing to say against her, whisper that her teeth are false.'

Photographed by Charles Reutlinger of Paris.
