Yaqui man

An albumen print portrait of a Yaqui man from the state of Sonora in northern Mexico.

The Yaqui or Yoeme are an Indian tribe who originally lived in the valley of the Río Yaqui.

An inked inscription in the lower margin reads: 'A Yackie Indian (Province) Sonora'.

Photographer unidentified.

The image measures 3.7" by 5.3" (13.5 cm by 8.5 cm) and is mounted on a cut-down section of album page. It dates from around 1870.
