William Glas Sandeman

A carte-de-visite portrait of William G. Sandeman (1843-1894).

This is probably William Glas Sandeman, a younger son of Thomas Glas Sandeman, merchant, wine importer and landed proprietor of Oporto in Portugal. Born at Oporto on 26 February 1843, he gained the title 1st Baron de Sandeman. He died on 31 December 1894.

He appears on the 1861 census, an eighteen-year-old pupil at Sandbach Grammar School in Cheshire.
