William Anby Upton, died 1866

The grave of William Anby Upton of London who died at Glasgow on 29 January 1866, aged 35. The memorial was 'erected by a few friends in testimony of their appreciation of his amiable disposition, upright character, and sterling worth'.

William Anby Upton was born on 15 March 1831 at Poplar in East London. His parents were James and Mary Upton. At the time of the 1851 census he was a draper's assistant in London. Ten years later he was a 'comb traveller' staying at an hotel in Aberdeen.
