Viscountess Folkestone


A carte-de-visite portrait of Viscountess Folkestone (1815-1879), later the Countess of Radnor.

Born Mary Augusta Frederica Grimston on 18 September 1815, she was the third daughter and sixth child of James Walter Grimston, 1st Earl of Verulam and his wife Lady Charlotte née Jenkinson. On 3 October 1840 she married Jacob Bouverie, elder son of William Bouverie, 3rd Earl of Radnor. Her husband’s father died in 1869 and he succeeded as 4th Earl of Radnor. He had previously, from 1828, been styled Viscount Folkestone.

Lady Radnor died on 5 April 1879 at the age of 58. Her husband survived her by ten years.
