Viscount Chetwyn


A carte-de-visite portrait of Viscount Chetwynd (1800-1879).

Richard Walter Chetwynd was born on 13 December 1800 at Bolton Row, Piccadilly, London. His parents were Richard Chetwynd, 5th Viscount Chetwynd of Bearhaven and Charlotte née Cartwright. He served as an officer in the service of the Grenadier Guards. On 26 March 1829 he succeeded his father, becoming the 6th Viscount of Chetwynd of Bearhaven in County Kerry and 6th Baron of Rathdowne in County Dublin.

He married firstly Mary Moss, daughter of Robert Moss, on 30 August 1822 at St. George’s, Hanover Square. On 24 September 1861 he married secondly Mary Hussey, daughter of John Hussey, at Withecombe Rawleight in Devon.

He died on 6 December 1879, at the age of 78.
