Thomas Webster

Thomas Webster

A carte-de-visite portrait of the English artist Thomas Webster (1800-1886), best known for his rustic genre scenes of school and village life, many of which became popular through prints. He lived for many years at the artists' colony at Cranbrook in Kent.

According to the memoirs of Lady Dorothy Nevill, ‘Mr Webster was very lively and full of fun, and devoted to children, like many people who have none of their own’ [Leaves from the Note-Books of Lady Dorothy Nevill, 1907].

Photographed by John and Charles Watkins of London.
