The Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh

A topographical carte-de-visite showing the view from the eastern end of Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh. The large neo-classical building in the middle distance is the National Gallery of Scotland. Designed by William Henry Playfair, it first opened to the public in 1859. In the background, Edinburgh Castle dominates the skyline from its position on Castle Rock.

Photographed by Archibald Burns of Edinburgh.
