The Bible stand from the Crystal Palace

The Bible stand from the Crystal Palace

A carte-de-visite showing several men standing in front of large kiosk, probably at the Exposition Universelle held in Paris in 1867.

A sign on the awning above the windows reads ‘The Bible Stand from the Crystal Palace, Sydenham.’ Above one of the arched windows under the awaning may be read ‘England’, while over a second appears ‘France’ and over a third, in Cyrillic, the word ‘Russia’ may be read. The words ‘La Parole de Dieu’ [The Word of God] can be read on the flag above the kiosk. The location is probably the Exposition Universelle, held in Paris in 1867.

Photographed by Negretti and Zambra.
