Reverend George Ainslie

Reverend George Ainslie (1804-1871)


According to the Clergy List of 1866, Rev. George Ainslie was Secretary to the Incorporated Church Building Society at 7, Whitehall, London.

According to Alumni Cantabrigienses, he was admitted to Emmanuel College on 9 March 1821 and was the son of Sir Robert Sharpe, Bart., of Park Street, Mayfair. He graduated B.A. in 1825 and M.A. in 1829. He was ordained a Deacon in London in 1828 and became a priest in 1829. His first living was the rectory of South Willingham in Lincolnshire, which he held from 1830 to 1837. He was also Curate of St. Peter’s, Walworth, in Surrey, in 1829 and again from 1838 to 1848. He held the incumbency of St. Philip’s in Clerkenwell until his resignation in 1854. Three years later was appointed Secretary of the Church Building Society, a position he held for 18 years until his death. He died unmarried on 14 May 1875, aged 71.
