Reverend Charles Frederick Childe

Reverend Charles Frederick Childe

The man standing at the centre of the group is probably the Reverend Charles Childe, the compiler of the album. The woman seated to his right is possibly his wife.

The first four photographs in the album show the Church Missionary College in Islington. From 1839 to 1858, the principal of the institution was the Rev. Charles Frederick Childe (1807-1897). From 1858 to 1884 he was the Rector of Holbrook in Suffolk, and some of the later photographs are views of All Saints’ Church in Holbrook.

Photographer unidentified.
