Rev. Charles Burney

Reverend Charles Burney (1816-1907)


Reverend Charles Burney appears on the 1861 census; the Vicar of Halstead in Essex, he was living at 121 Parsonage Street in Halstead. Also present on the night of the census were his 19-year-old daughter Annie; his 69-year-old mother-in-law Elizabeth Carmichael, and two servants. Aged 45 at the time of the census, he was born in or about 1816 at Greenwich.

By the time of the 1901 census, he was living at St Mark's Vicerage in Surbiton with his wife Mary, aged 78, and his unmarried daughters Annie (59), Eliza (53), and Margaret (50). Mrs Burney had 5 live-in servants to run her household.

Reverend Charles Burney died at the age of 91 in the March ¼ of 1907; the death was registered in the district of Kingston, Surrey.
