Proof of Margaret Longmire's great age

Proof of Margaret Longmire's great age

Margaret Longmire was the oldest inhabitant of Troutbeck in the Lake District and achieved some small fame on account of her great age. Various photographs of her were commercially available during her last years and in 1868 her death at the age of 104 was even reported in The Times.

This carte-de-visite shows proof of her age. It is an extract from the baptism register of the parish church of Windermere in the County of Westmorland, duly certified by Edward P. Stock, the Rector, on 8 October 1865. She was baptised on 19 Mary 1777 when she was twelve years old, so was therefore born in 1764.

Photographer unidentified [reverse is blank].
