Princess Victoria, the Princess Royal

Princess Victoria, the Princess Royal

A carte-de-visite portrait of Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Crown Princess Victoria of Prussia, known as ‘Vicky’ within the family.

In 1858 she married Crown Prince Friedrich of Prussia (known as ‘Fritz’ within the family). In 1888 her husband succeeded as Emperor Friedrich III of Germany and Vicky became Empress. However, her husband was already dying of throat cancer and only reigned for three months.

Photographed by Hills and Saunders of Eton and Oxford.
