Naval cadets aboard HMS Victory

A small albumen print showing officers and cadets on the deck of HMS Victory, Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

The ship's active career ended in 1812, when she was moored in Portsmouth harbour and used as a depot ship. From 1889 to 1904 she was used as the Naval School of Telegraphy. In 1922 she was moved into a dry dock and much-needed restoration begun, the work being completed in 1928.

Photographer unidentified.
