Mrs Ward Chapman's children

Mrs Ward Chapman's children

Identified in the Silvy daybooks as ‘Mrs Ward Chapman’s children,’ these are probably two of the children of the banker David Ward Chapman, at one time a dealer at Overend, Gurney and Co.

David Ward Chapman and his family appear on the 1861 census, living at 35, Princes Gate, Knightsbridge. He was 33 and his wife Charlotte was 32. Their children were Charlotte (8), Caroline Ella (6), David (5), Perceval (4), Flora (2) and Frederick (1). Given the date of this sitting, which was only 9 days after the census, the children seen here are probably Perceval and Flora. Also present on the night of the census were 16 live-in servants, including a butler, an under-butler, a footman and a page.
