Mrs Louise Farquhar


The Honourable Louise Harriet Ridley-Colborne was born on 7 November 1821, the fourth daughter of Nicholas William Ridley-Colborne, 1st and last Baron Colborne of West Harling. On 25 September 1849 she married Harvie Morton Farquhar, son of Sir Thomas Harvie Farquhar, 2nd Baronet. Her husband was the director and proprietor of the New British Iron Company. Their marriage produced five children.

Mrs Farquhar drowned while bathing on 22 August 1870. According to a brief report in The Times (25 August 1870): 'Mrs Farquhar, wife of Mr Farquhar, lessee of the Strontian shootings, residing at the mansion-house there, was drowned at 2 o'clock on Monday while bathing in Loch Sunart. Mr Farquhar was at the time in Banavie [a village near Fort William].'
