Mrs Charles Mathews

A carte-de-visite portrait of the actress formerly known as Mrs AH Davenport. In 1858 she married the comic actor Charles Mathews and was subsequently known professionally as Mrs Charles Mathews.

In 1861, she and her husband gave a series of ‘At Homes’ at the Haymarket theatre, which proved enormously popular. In 1870 they visited Australia where they were enthusiastically received.
