Mrs Campbell of Islay

Mrs Campbell of Islay

Mrs Katherine Isabella Campbell was the second wife of Walter Frederick Campbell of Islay. One source gives her maiden name as Catherine Isabella Cole. She appears on the 1861 census, a widow living at Niddry Lodge in Kensington (Hornton Street / Campden Hill). The head of the household is her step-son, John Francis Camden. The other members of the family at the same address are Mrs Campbell’s own children, namely Walter, Violet and Consteilia. According to the census, Mrs Campbell was 44 years old; the census also records the fact that she was blind. Mrs Campbell appears at the same address on the 1871 census.

Mrs Campbell died in the last quarter of 1897, at the age of eighty-one; the death was registered in the district of St George’s Hanover Square, London.

Photographed in London by Camille Silvy on 10 April 1861.

From an album compiled by either the Campbells of Islay or possibly the Campbells of Ardpatrick
