Miss Freda Lisle Phillipps


Identified on the album page as ‘Miss Freda Lisle Phillipps, this is Winefrede Mary Lisle March Phillipps. Her father was the English Catholic convert Ambrose Lisle March Phillipps and her mother was Laura Maria Clifford. In 1863 her father legally changed his name to Ambrose Lisle March Phillipps de Lisle. On 16 July 1863 she married Edward George Fitzalan-Howard, a younger son of Henry Charles Howard, 13th Duke of Norfolk and Charlotte Sophia Levenson-Gower. In 1869 her husband was created 1st Baron Howard of Glossop. He died on 1 December 1883, at the age of 65.

Baroness Winefrede Mary Howard of Glossop died 7 December 1909, without issue, at Quilter's Cliff Hotel in Felixstowe, Suffolk. She left effects valued at £4173.
