Miss Florence Clarke

A carte-de-visite portrait of Miss Florence Clarke (1850-1925), later Mrs Edwin Caulfeild.

Born in London in or about 1850, Florence Elizabeth Middleton Clarke was the fifth daughter of Colonel John Frederick Sales Clarke of the Royal Scots Greys (died 1856).

She appears on the 1851 census, aged 4 months, staying at 10 Cornwall Terrace in Marylebone, the home of her grandmother Margaret Terry. Also present on the night of the census were her six siblings and their mother, Margaret Clarke (née Terry).

On 20 June 1872 she married Edwin James Stuart Widdrington Caulfeild (1848-1914), son of Commander Edwin Toby Caulfeild of the Royal Navy. The couple appear on the 1881 census living at Beckford House, Bath, Somerset. Their marriage produced at least two children.

Mrs Florence Caulfeild died on 9 April 1925 at 8 Stamford Road, Kensington.

Photographed on 10 February 1865 by Camille Silvy of London.

[From an album compiled by her cousin, Astley Fellowes Terry.]
