Miss Constance Braham

According to the daybooks, this portrait of the 'daughter of Charles Braham' was 'taken by order of Countess Waldegrave'. The previous two entries in the daybooks are of Frances, Countess of Waldegrave (1821-1879). Lady Waldegrave was the daughter of the tenor John Braham and Charles Braham was her brother; Constance was therefore her niece.

Born in 1855, Constance Braham was the daughter of the singer Charles Bampfylde Braham (1823-1884). She married Edward Strachey, 1st Baron Strachie on 17 January 1880. She died on 22 December 1936, at the age of 81.
