Maréchal Bosquet

Maréchal Bosquet

A carte-de-visite portrait of Maréchal Bosquet (1810-1861).

Maréchal Pierre Bosquet was a veteran of Algeria and the Crimea (Inkermann and Malakoff).

It was he who uttered the memorable line, referring to the Charge of the Light Brigade, ‘C’est magnifique, mais ce n’est pas la guerre’ [It’s magnificent, but it isn’t war.]

He died on 3 February 1861.
