An actress or dancer, seen here costumed for a travesty role. The Musée d'Orsay in Paris has an uncut sheet of eight portraits from this sitting; dated 1862, the sitter is identified as 'Mme. Berthier.'

Several of the dancers at the Paris Opéra specialized in such roles, including Marie Petipa, Eugénie Fiocre and Marie Sanlaville.
