Born Louisa Emma Maunsell in or about 1824, she was the daughter of Robert George Maunsell and his wife Mabel (née O’Grady). On 17 August 1843 she married Colonel Francis William Ogilvy-Grant, 6th Earl of Seafield. Her first husband died in 1853 and she married, secondly, Major Godfrey William Hugh Massy, son of Reverend William Massy, on 31 January 1856. After his death on 4 June 1862, his widow married, thirdly, Lord Henry Yorke Astley Loftus, son of the 2nd Marquess of Ely, on 5 July 1864.

The Dowager Countess of Seafield died on 2 August 1884. She had one son, the product of her second marriage, Godfrey Lennox Eyre Massy, born on 24 December 1856. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Connaught Rangers and in 1882 he married Louisa Lamb at St George's, Hanover Square.
