Lieutenant Edward Chichester

Lieutenant Edward Chichester

An inked inscription on the album page identifies the sitter's as Chichester, H. and Curly, HMS "Torch".

The Navy List for 1875-76 reveals that the Lieutenant on HMS Torch was Edward Chichester, later Rear-Admiral Sir Edward Chichester. Born on 20 November 1849, he served as a Naval ADC to both Queen Victoria and King Edward VII. He died on 17 September 1906.

The Sub-Lieutenant on the left in this photograph, identified only as 'H', is possibly the Hutchinson identified more fully in another portrait on the same album page.

Photographer unidentified.
