A carte-de-visite portrait of Lady Catherine Berkeley (1829-1924).

Lady Mary Catherine Browne was the daughter of Sir Thomas Browne, 3rd Earl of Kenmare and his wife, Catherine (née Catherine O’Callaghan). On 24 March 1851 she married Robert Berkeley, son of Robert Berkeley of Worcestershire.

They appear on the 1861 census, living at Overbury Court House, Overbury, Worcestershire. He gave his profession as ‘Justice of the Peace.’ She gave her place of birth as ‘Ireland.’ They had three sons, three daughters, nine servants and a governess.

She died on 26 August 1924. Her obituary appeared in the Times the following day: ‘The death took place yesterday morning at Napleton Grange, Kempsey, near Worcester, the residence of her son, of Lady Mary Catherine Berkeley, of Spetchley Park, Worcestershire. Lady Catherine Berkeley, who was in her 95th year, was the second daughter of the third Earl of Kenmare and aunt of the present peer. She married, in 1851, the late Robert Berkeley, who died in 1897, and by whom she had six sons and six daughters.’
