Lady Caroline Pratt

Lady Caroline Pratt

A carte-de-visite portrait of Lady Caroline Elizabeth Pratt (1839-1929), a daughter of George Pratt, the 2nd Marquess Camden.

At the time of her birth her father held the courtesy title Earl of Brecknock, but the following year, 1840, he succeeded his father as 2nd Marquess Camden.

Lady Caroline Pratt, who never married, died in 1929 at the age of 90. On 14 November, The Times reported that 'The funeral of Lady Caroline Pratt took place at Seal Church near Sevenoaks yesterday. The Rev. H. Jones Davies (the vicar) and the Rev. Ronald Pratt (nephew) officiated. The chief mourners were the Marquess and Marchioness of Camden, Sir George Murray, Mrs. W. H. Hoare, Miss Isobel Murray, Mrs Kitchin, and Mr Cecil Stewart'.

Photographed in 1860 by Camille Silvy of London.

From an album probably compiled by either George Charles Pratt (1799-1866), 2nd Marquess Camden or by his son, John Charles Pratt (1840-1872), from 1866 3rd Marquess Camden.
