Joseph Victor Wilmart

Joseph Victor Wilmart

An inked inscription verso in a period hand reads: 'Joseph Victor Wilmart / Born July 11th 1905 / Died Feb 2th [sic] 1906.'

The 1910 census shows a William and Augusta Wilmart living at Ypsilanti, only a few miles from Jamestown in North Dakota. Aged 36 at the time of the census, William was born in Belgium. He gave 'Farmer' as his profession. His wife Augusta was born in North Dakota to German parents. However, they had a son called Joseph who was born 1900 and died 1970.

This boy's father was probably Victor Joseph Wilmart, who was possibly a brother of William Wilmart. Born in Belgium on 6 March 1876, he died in 1967 in Tucson, Arizona. He and his wife Rose appear on the 1910 census living in Jamestown, North Dakota. Victor gave 'Restaurant' as his profession. Rose was born in Wisconsin to Belgian parents.

Photographed by Dewey of Jamestown, North Dakota.
