Hon Isabel Gough-Calthorpe

Hon Isabel Gough-Calthorpe

According to Burke’s Peerage and Baronetage (1871), she was born Isabella Eleanor Mary Gough-Calthorpe although she is consistently identified in her brother's album as 'Isabel' not 'Isabella'. She appears on the 1861 census, living with her parents at 33, Grosvenor Street, London. She gave her name as Isabel, her age as 27, so she was born in 1833 or 1834, and her place of birth as London.

She appears on the 1881 census, living with her unmarried older brother, Frederick, Lord Calthorpe, at the family seat, Elvetham House, at Elvetham in Hampshire. She gave her name as Isabel Emily Calthorpe. Her younger sister, Olivia, was also present. The two women were 47 and 46 respectively, and both unmarried.

The Hon Isabel Gough-Calthorpe died, aged 63, in 1896.

Photographed in 1860 by Camille Silvy of London.

From an album compiled by the sitter's brother, Augustus Gough-Calthorpe, from 1893 the 6th Baron Calthorpe.
